Squatter or Blogtrotter?

Get out of your own blog much?

Does that stifled feeling leave you dreaming of taking off in search of sensational content from exotic locations, poems from the most gifted souls, meaningful musings from passionate writers and some of the funniest bloggers you’ll find on this planet?

They’re all right here waiting for you to come over.

Please accept this invitation to become a blogtrotter and the opportunity for unique expeditions will surround you.

6 months have passed since Free little Words began it’s journey here on WordPress. In the beginning, I planned to post every single day. At times, this was difficult and I definitely lost sleep over what I wanted to write. After the 5 month mark, came a wall. The realisation that publishing a post just to honour the commitment I made to myself became glaringly obvious. Quality was not the main focus anymore and it became increasingly difficult to keep up with the reader, comments and housekeeping.

Daily prompts passed by without a glimpse, serial ‘liking’ happened more often than not and time constraints stopped me from responding in kind to awards. The most difficult part was making time to discover new blogs, particularly the blogs of those people who had found mine. Some are following Free Little Words, others have commented but return visits haven’t eventuated. Added to this was the determination to have my first manuscript out the door which was accomplished.

So, now a change of scenery is being demanded. There are awesome blogs just waiting to be delved into. Becoming a blogtrotter and uncovering some awesome new blogs is a priority. I feel the need to be inspired: to find the funny, unique, positive, thoughtful and thought provoking blogs that will stretch an atrophied mind, allow it to be drenched in sunlight and be open to accepting new challenges.

There are other reading challenges on WordPress but most come with a set of rules and while conforming to a certain way of doing things is normally right up my alley, I want to fly by the seat of my pants this time round and do exactly as I please. No rules. Oh boy!

As a result there won’t be much going on within these walls for the next few weeks. Unearthing at least one new blog a day is going to be the main focus. When a blog is worth a shout out you’ll be the first to know. Featuring some old bloggerellies with the new is part of the overall plan. By highlighting your blog, the aim is to connect you with new followers.

The WordPress Blogtrotter badge is yours to do with as you wish. No strings. No fine print.

Continue to write as you always have. There may be many ‘someones’ about to discover you through your next post.

Love your work!

Kelly.

  1. This is sooo totally cool! (I once met the original Harlem Globetrotters – many moons ago:)

You are so awesome. I understand what you mean completely. I have always tried to “go and seek new blogs and boldly go where no one has gone before” – there is much to be seen out there. This is one of the reasons I have always enjoyed awards – i learn about other blogs and I get the opportunity to spread the word in return.

I have started a big awards blog – I hope to get it posted by the weekend – have a bit of a pooter issue (just posted a poem about it:) – but it will be resolved. In the meantime, I am around – digging your blog, I cannot miss!

“There is nothing to prove – only to share” – Alvin Ailey

“Courage is being scared to death…… and saddling up anyway” – John Wayne

“Everything I’ve ever let go of has claw marks on it” – David Foster Wallace

    • How awesome it would have been to meet the Globetrotters.

Hope the pooter isn’t too pooey for long and I look forward to your awards post.

I have saddled up my horse and I’m ready for an adventure.

  2. I must admit, also starting in Jan 2013, getting a high quality post out of everyday is becoming challenging. I didn’t set a specific time period for doing it, just loved it so much. I have started re-reading my first posts and decided to rework/update them. I also have at least 5 drafts waiting in the wings at any given time. So I am still going forth to stick with a postaday.

Sure I love it, but it’s hard work. And people like my photo’s more!! (Do I seem like a broken record on this issue?)

Keep me posted on the great discoveries you make.

  3. I’m looking forward to what you come up with, Kelly, as I am always on the lookout for blogs with interesting content. As for blogging every day, I don’t think I could ever be capable of that. Too much pressure. 🙂

    • I always find a way to put too much pressure on myself. Posting every day became a burden. I just want to discover and read for a while and be inspired to write about all the awesome content that exists. I hope to find some blogs you will enjoy.

  4. You always have the best ideas, K! I hope you have a wonderful “blogtrotter” experience! I look forward to reaping what you sow when you point us to new blogs to check out! lol

    • Ideas are easy, follow through is the issue for me because I have too many ideas. There’s about 50 million blogs for me to look at. Shouldn’t take long. I hope to find some beauties.

  5. Fantastic realization. Blogging should be something one pursues for his/her personal reasons, but posting for the sake of posting (I feel) shouldn’t be one of them. The last thing you want is to become a slave to the blog, so I think you’re taking the right step! Reading other blogs and bonding with other bloggers is one of the most rewarding aspects of blogging.

    • Couldn’t agree more, Gwen.
In the beginning I wanted to remind myself daily to be grateful for dirty washing, sticky fingers and school drop offs. I became a slave by my own hand. My posts became more in depth and became more about the reader’s experience while visiting my blog than my personal motivation for beginning it in the first place. I have always loved reading and while I still read all my ‘regular’ bloggers’ posts it’s time for me to go forth and discover.

  6. Look at you being all wild and crazy and stuff flying by the seat of your pantaloons! Well done, mate! You like that? You’re a sweetie so don’t run off for too long. It is hard to keep up with new followers while staying up with those who’ve pretended to love me since nearer the beginning like my wife and mommy. Keep up the good hunt! I look forward to trying to read new blogs you suggest.

  7. Good to see you, Don. I love that word pantaloons. My grandad used to use it all the time. There’s a book in the works with pantaloons in it. Good on ya, cobber! Sweet and I don’t really belong in the same sentence together but thank you. I love ya, mate. There’s some good ones out there. One that I’ll be featuring tomorrow will be right up your alley.
