Love is All You Need

All you need is love (and maybe some added relaxants).

That was definitely the belief in the 60’s which probably flowed over into the early 70’s.

This music video rocked the 70’s but there is a little more history behind it. To get the brief overview I went over to consult my buddy Wiki which explains that The Butterfly’s Ball, and the Grasshopper’s Feast is the title of a poem by William Roscoe written in 1802, and tells the story of a party for insects and other small animals. I was only little when it was first released but I remember seeing it on Countdown and wanting to watch it over and over again.

I’ve shared this clip with my kids and related my enjoyment of it to being similar to them loving to watch Peppa Pig or Power Rangers episodes time after time. Trying to have them understand that we didn’t have the ability to press rewind or insert a disc is somewhat difficult. This is not dissimilar to my mum’s generation describing to us what life before TV was like. I wonder what my kids will tell their children they didn’t have when they were young.

No matter where technology takes us next my hope is that we don’t show our children that we ‘need’ these advances. As a society we might crave them, desire them or even want them but we don’t need them. My wish is for my kids to understand the difference between needs and wants because at the end of the day………………………………….
